yes I think thats the fatest ever..will have to check with guiness on that one. I'm not too bothered about it though, its the same ol stuff with a new name. I downloaded part of the Montreal 83 DVD and its probably nearly as bad as the 76 DVD. I must say Freecloud over there is a very serious collector, maybe some of his stuff will see the light of day somewhere and sometime.

Right i guess we all take the good with the bad, so far as boot quality. But we all do have a common interest ?. Don't we ?. The more the merrier, i say.

What you have missed is that the RIGHT person could have done a better job with the available material. The people over there are more intent with their own delusions of grandeur than doing the best job for the Bowie fraternity.

Edit: Clarification.

mmmmm I really don't want to argue about this. But THEY assure me that there is no way that they transfer vcd to dvd. They merly torrent the format that it is in. Point in case i downed Toronto dvd from JBT and it was as good as any dvd boot at S.J. and proberly the same as the torrent at DAD. In fact i would go so far to say that Toronto is the best Reality dvd gig i have seen to date. Having only seen .... MSG (1 camera) Jones Beach (1 camera) Philly Cologne Now Cologne is been torrented at SM, this is a single camera stage right (a very long throw), this is poor, only because the camera is so far away. Ok stuff like some of the vcd's are not so great quality, but hey what the hell. Their dvd's are as good as any others that i can see, and i am sure it will grow. You have to admit that the rules are a lot better, as in no rules, seed as much as you can, and no passwords. Ok they don't have a proper server, but good on them for a excellent effort, as with this excellent message board and Korrups message board and torrent site, and of course DAD is always there. But i believe Zigs and Freecloud don't need me to stick up for them, their dvd titles speak for themselves. It would seem most of us down at DAD anyway. Don't get me wrong, but lets face it S.J. dosn't look like it is coming back, so we will have to made do. I find it best to draw from All sources, been a generalist. One big Bowie world wide fan base ??.

dont get me wrong, I have nothing personal against the site or the ppl that run it. I dont know what all there DVD boots are like I can only go by what I had. The audio art of it could have gone a lot further if they were in lossless form, but most of them were obtained via soulseek (hence the mp3), the ones that were passed along to them in lossles format were converted to mp3. Tom and I really dont see eye to eye on things these days and that wont change( kids will be kids). Freecloud is a very avid bowie collectorwith many a rare item, but I haven't really seen any of his material available on that site and I dont think it will become available. Its a shame the site like GO said above is such poorly ran. So all In all I would have to agree with everything goblinking said above. and for those ho just wish to hear a bowie live recording they have never heard before, then I guess as an mp3 site it is an easy way to hear them.

Heck, I wasn't going to reply to all this, but I feel I ought to make some factual corrections.
Firstly, let me say that in all my years of collecting Bowie material, I've come across all sorts of pretentious not a very nice persons that will (a) only share their collection to a few people and then only on condition that it remains private and (b) who only share their collection very very reluctantly.
From day one, I decided that anything I obtained would be shared with anyone..... on condition they shared as well. A variety of sites have been used used for this: good ole Napster; WinMX; Soulseek; and now forum based torrents.
MP3's have generally been used as the medium, but that is not to say that the lossless formats have ever been 'lost'. They are, presumably, still available from whence they came and rightly so. MP3's do not reduce the value of the market place, they enhance it, by making boots available to those who want them in that format.
All video's shared are 'as is'. i.e. as they are obtained. If someone wants to send me a crap DVD from Montreal 83 - so be it, I'll share it. But it certainly isn't converted by me from something into something else.
"Delusions of grandeur" I believe arise on the other side of the fence, by trying to continue ring fencing various bootlegs of our beloved performer. As regards the 'RIGHT' person, I can only think of Ruud & Stefan who provide comprehensive websites and reserach as mine does. So much so that I am honoured that Nick Pegg thought enough to provide me with an acknowledgement in his 2004 edition.
Finally, I've met so many bowie fans over the internet years, I've stayed with a lot of them, and a lot of them have stayed with me. Freecloud did last summer, and I can certainly vouch that she hasn't had a sex change and is most definately a woman.

Just to back up my claims... Below are a couple of screenshots from Lucca, which was one of their "I knew we had to do something special with this one" so we.... Screenshot 1Screenshot 2As you can see: The video quality was quite good, but: "something special"... we have to toot our horn. !!! "blocky bits"... They would have done more for us fans by giving the material to somebody who knew what they were doing. Once again... Just my 2c. Goblin.

I don't want 'everything', I want the best, I am not out to get 'every' single Reality concert, life is too short. I know there is a place for mp3's and if the only source available is an mp3 source I will take it, but I would prefer something which is lossless, but not only lossless, good too. So if I see one site which has every show imaginable but which has no qc or grading system and another site which has limited output but qc, I am going to go for that site. I may be on the internet a good proportion of the day, but I haven't the time or inclination to download rubbish. If a dvd exists, why would I prefer to download a vcd, if a flac exists why would I bother with the mp3? It is not being elitist, it is being selective. An mp3 can be encoded again and again and the quality will suffer.
I downloaded a torrent last week, the New Haven 74, this was a flac file, but to be honest, I've chucked it. It sounded poor compared to other 74 shows I have downloaded. I would never have played it again, so what is the point of going to the trouble of printing artwork and storing it until I die? None. Why would someone want to download a selfconfessed 'crap dvd of montreal' it is never going to be watched more than once, I would prefer to wait for a good copy which might or might not appear. It might be different if that was the only record of the tour, but it isn't.
When it comes to bootleg material, and I am talking to everyone now, life is too short to be a completistm. Get the best, get the newly unearthed stuff and let the rubbish pass you by.

Just dropped in to say Hi.... I'm aware of all the critics that float around..... and I'm also aware that no matter what I say will change a thing, so I'm not even gonna try. It is simply our choise to offer the audio boots in mp3 format. We also share every video we have, quality or no quality. It's up to the members if they want to download or not. As for the quality rating... I agree, we need to do something about that. And so we will. But in the meantime.... it's not a big deal to simply ask us about the quality. Those of you who have taken the time to actually get to know me a little better, know you'll get a straight answer. And yes Korupt, last time I checked I was still a woman. Freecloud

One more thing, by offering fewer things, people are going to work together more as they will all be uploading and downloading at the same time. That is the biggest problem with having everything available at one time, the time it takes to download. Good on Freecloud and Ziggy for making this archive available to people, it is great, but a little restriction in the number of available torrents at one time would mean more could jump on each torrent. Requests could be made etc so people get the show they want. Just a thought.
Good luck with the site anyway.

Below are a couple of screenshots from Lucca, which was one of their "I knew we had to do something special with this one" so we... I have launch Lucca DVD myself and i can assure lots of Bowie fans were glad i did it. Btw, one of ex-SJ members has posted a comment at JBT telling about the 10 minutes he had spent to make Santiago DVD looking better. Haven't seen this stuff shared yet... I don't believe most of you go to other sites to download and then get criticizing STILL.... Sincerely...

Saloca wrote:I believe that you might be thinking of me The comments I offered at JBT were just aimed at making the file size smaller. All that was done was to cut out the 1GB + of blank video at the end of the disc. To make the video look noticeably better, the original author (doscbn?) would need to record from the original tape to standalone using a short play mode rather than the extended mode used. You won't see it shared by me for a couple of reasons. First, it is a poor transfer and a much nicer job could have been done with the source tape. Who wants to watch substandard material knowing full well there is better out there? Second, there are several more tracks from the Buenos Aires show which were broadcast at a different time. One of these days I may get around to stitching them together but it seems pointless to do a transfer from a 4th gen tape. Kind of like transferring svcd to dvd. If you want the smaller sized Santiago/BA dvd, I'll be happy to send you a copy by snail mail. At least it would make seeding easier in future. Drop me a PM at JBT with a mailing address and it will be done. Regards, G.

G did a terrific job with the Stage Actor Remastered DVD also, as well as others.
Maybe you could ask him (very nicely) to author the VCR conversions you've attempted. I'm sure G would be happy to send them back to you for your own torrent site. At least you'd know the material would be the best available.
Cheers, Goblin
