Running a community based tracker ? Take a look at this - tbb.littleoogie.com/forum/Login fred , password 11111 Based on TorrentPier by Meithar www.torrentpier.com/It's a phpbb forum with a built in tracker/torrenting system you can see in use at - www.zappateers.com/bband at www.torrents.ru/forum/It's sitting in Littleoogie's webspace at the moment, oogie would not be able to run it, she does not have the resources on her server. I've spent the weekend testing and skinning it It works very well and is very easy to configure and run. Is it any good for you guys ? It would need a home/server to run from. Anyway have a look and see what you think

I have also been looking into this phpbb forum tracker also, it does seem to do a very good job with everything. I am currently holding back on this though as a new version of the phpbb forum that DBT uses is being released very soon. I have been running torrentpeir as a local server for the last couple weeks and it does look very promising. I ill keep you updated on the update DBT will go with.
and btw this is a community based tracker and I would be very interested in some members here contacting me about moderator positions and members to become part of the uploaders group.

TorrentPier by Meithar is very nice. Having skinned it, I've had a good look at the code. The front end is phpBB with the attach mod the xs styles mod the sub-forums mod the quick reply mod, and others. The tracker is based on ByteMonsoon and OpenTracker. And the skin I used is Aphrodite by CyberAlien. The tracker works very well, OpenTracker is possibly the least resource hungry tracker around. I do like that skin

Yes I actually put this online yesturday for a few hours. The code seems to be very solid. and most of the dodgy code has been removed or fixed on the tracker end. I have been reading though that an update to this will be coming very soon based on phpbb 2.0.17 and better optimised coding on the tracker end also. Maybe hold of till then. If you can find a host for this I would be willing to support it. Its an excellent forum based community tracker which should please almost everyone. Maybe we could merge all this into one great community.

just also to let ya know the new version is up and running and will be available in a few days after testing. "New version (0.3.5) installed on www.zappateers.com/bb/I'll post it after few days of testing. " straight from the horses mouth, so to speak.

Yep, living in sunny Guildford, where's your home town ? just also to let ya know the new version is up and running and will be available in a few days after testing. "New version (0.3.5) installed on www.zappateers.com/bb/I'll post it after few days of testing. " straight from the horses mouth, so to speak. It'll be interesting to see what Meithar has done. The Zappa site is looking very good. If you can find a host for this I would be willing to support it. Its an excellent forum based community tracker which should please almost everyone. Maybe we could merge all this into one great community. Yes it needs a host, whatever tracker/software you guys use, you'll need a host. What is the current thinking ? Stick with these forums and DAD ? (these forums are very good, and DAD is reliable.) Or build something new ? Something that, like korupt says, pleases almost everyone ?

Sorry, also thanks for the examples of trackers. No problem I know very little about trackers but with these ones i'm looking how they work There's not much to know really, it took around 10 minutes to get TorrentPier to run. It took the weekend to skin it, but only 10 minutes to get it up and running. If I had the money, I'd buy a dedicated server, slap TorrentPier on it and let you guys get on with running the forums/tracker, but I don't have the money Oh well.

well, that's another topic: donations
Colin never wanted them but i think it's necessary.
only 50 members who could donate $7 each -> $350
I think it covers domain and hosting for a year, or maybe two.

I agree, donations are necessary. only 50 members who could donate $7 each -> $350 I think it covers domain and hosting for a year, or maybe two. For £350 a year, you are talking about sharing a server with other people/businesses. You could be heading for trouble if you share a server. Why not go to - forums.arcadefire.net/ (The Archade Fire) www.zappateers.com/bb/index.php (Zappa) and talk to the webmasters there. They are both running trackers, you can find out lots of information from the webmasters, including how much hosting would cost. I'm sure that they would be glad to help

I run the DBT tracker on a dedicated business IP from my home, which is perfectly fine and has the bandwidth to handle such a tracker. I would like though to build a dedicated machine that would just serve that function and that function alone. Probably by xmas I will be in that situation and be able to do a much better job than I currently can do.
